Fossil fuel advocates have made it clear they will seek to blame renewables whatever the reason for lights going out. That much was made clear by former deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce, whose electorate is probably home to more renewable energy projects than any other.

    "finding"

    edit: overly critical

    edit2:

It ranges from 66 per cent of maximum demand in South Australia, where rooftop solar is expected to account for all on minimum demand within a decade.
when did the sun start shining at night?
its great solar can meet min demand during the day but going to need a lot of batteries for the night.

and is demand response just turning off big power users? that not finding new capacity, that forcibly reducing demand.

I'll put myself up against the wall here and supply you all with the guns and ammo to shoot me down, but I reckon the cause of all the power woes is Privatisation.
    Cheers, Billy.

I would have said knee jerk policy by politicians rather than design by engineers
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

One day, after many many many attempts at education, you may finally understand that daytime solar is only one part of the solution. Storage, synfuels and non daylight supply can be organised in many different ways. Do some reading.

Who's talking about "forcing"? People are getting paid to reduce consumption at critical load times because it's cheaper than finding the equivalent amount of peaking capacity. Your factory makes $10K an hour making dooflangies? Get paid $12K to turn off the production line and give the workers an extra hour off or pay $20K to find a peaker to supply the kilowatts. A distinct no brainer.

so we need to have 2 systems, one for day, one for night. that adds duplication and cost.

yes, that happens some of the time.
but there are other businesses who get shutoff and dont get paid.

Not really. How much does the concept of "zero input cost" mean to you? Solar plus storage is already cheaper to build than new coal and it's only getting cheaper. Running costs are much lower when you don't have to constantly dig up filthy black crap to burn. Solar plus storage is loads easier than mining + transport + burning it to make steam + using steam to spin turbines + distributing it many hundreds of km from where the plant is.

You're describing load shedding, not demand response. Do keep up.

sure, the cheaper price reflects on my power bill.

no, the AEMO have lumped both into 1. which I think is wrong.
