Dylan wins Nobel Prize for Literature

If it must go to a singer, I would choose leonard Cohen. At least he can sing.I have always been a fan of Dylan, not for his singing ability, but for the fact his songs influenced a generation . I can not believe the proper selection process was carried out. It was a popular decision, but not an ethical decision, IMO.

I am a huge Dylan fan (pre 65), but not sure about a Nobel for literature. I'm not sure of the criteria for a literary Nobel so I wont speculate though.
As for selling out..... He sold song rights to Starbucks so I don't think that accepting a Nobel is going to impact his street cred any further

It has nothing to do with singing. It went to a song writer, not a singer.

The award is for the words he wrote. The fact that he sang them (in his own inimitable style ) is irrelevant. :)

I would agree with you Bob that Dylan can't sing (in my opinion, neither can Leonard Cohen). :D

But as vnx205 has pointed out, the award was given for his songwriting, not his singing ability (or lack thereof). ;)

And certainly not his diction....

He has written some powerful words and a few that stirred a nation or two

Show me where it is said in the Nobel process, you can be awarded the prize for literature, for writing songs?

Some of his songs are way above typical song lyrics and are certainly 'new poetic expressions', I think. That's why he got the award.
