Trout do you seriously believe that? I would like to think you are just being provocative. I would hope that no regular on this page actually thought to execute innocents, even a small percentage of those convicted, was collateral damage. If you are serious then I cannot express sufficiently my contempt.

the abc was in possession of material that was classified. pretty simple really.

2 reasons I know of.

1. classified info
2. it permits censoring of non relevant information. Say there was a piece of paper with 10 names on it that had nothing to do with the relevant matter, without that power those names are automatically required to be present if the document is used in evidence. you then wind up with a whole lot of "xyz, ascosciated with scandle ABC" potential.

A judge granted the search warrant. There must have been sufficient evidence to satisfy a Judge. Likewise the conditions of the warrant.

The media and priests like to think they have some form of immunity but they dont (thankfully). Speaking more generally the notion that we should all be told about things that are deemed secret by the instruments of our Governments (ie the people we put into power to make such decisions about classification...and in turn their picks for leaders of the arms of the ADF) to then decide (by what...public polling...?) what should secret and what shouldnt be (ie when it is too late to put the secret genie back in the bottle) is the dangerous concept...not the raid to enforce existing laws about secret materials.

PS. The "assault on the media" must have been horrific. Wasnt the ABC Board having McDonalds around the board table whilst this was going on? I thought I saw that on the news this morning
