Interesting as there has been little comment on wage theft. It may not be a crime of violence but still people are hurt.

I mentioned it in an earlier post in this thread. I suggested that there should be mandatory felony convictions and gaol sentences for business owners, directors, and executives who do not pay employees superannuation contributions or income tax deductions. I suggested that these sentences be served in a penitentiary not a country club. No suspended sentences, fines, or community service orders. I feel the same way about bankrupts. No escape after two years. You owe the money, you owe it forever. Strip all assets from these people and families and leave them bare assed in the street until their debts are repaid. None of the BS about "thats my wife's mansion. That's my mother's 60' yacht." Everything belongs to the creditors.

Not sure what state it was in, (alzhiemers strikes again), but a retired magistrate once told an acquaintance of mine, that he used to get a note each day he sat, stating how many vacancies there were in the prison system, and how many of them were allocated to his courtroom. If he used his quota in the morning, all cases in the afternoon got non-custodial aentences!

Maybe if the death sentence was to be reintroduced and deportation was to be made compulsory this would free up a lot of space in our prison system so that the vermin can be taken off the streets instead of being given non custodial penalties and are left to reoffend again.
It would also provide a very real deterrent to stop people offending in the first place.

    Definitely stops them re-offending, though!

How on earth can people reoffend if the death penalty is carried out or they are no longer in the country?

Good grief, get the smelling salts, I for once agree with Eevo. The threat of the death penalty does absolutely zip to prevent crime. Potential crims always think that they're cleverer than the cops. And removing one crim from an area is like controlling feral cats. Euthanase one and another one moves in to fill its place. It's like Merry Old England putting the death penalty on bread stealing and deporting its felons to far flung colonies, guess what, there were always more crims to catch.

People don't expect to be caught and have to face the penalty.
