The more times change, the more they stay the same.

    That explains quite a lot.
You and your mates need to step out of your ivory towers and talk to some of the people that live in less affluent areas or better still spend a week or more living there.
Drugs are one of the most common causes of crime in suburbia even the smaller towns are riddled with the problem and it is on the rise everywhere.
When I first moved to Geraldton WA there was a bit of pot around but the heavy drugs were petty much non existant and there was no need to lock up your house or car and everything else like we have too today.
Back then there was a large proportion of the population that were immigrants mainly from Europe and the UK But they didn't form gangs and terrorise the local community like our newer batch of immigrants/refugees do.
As kids we could walk around the streets at any hour with impunity and total safety as could the elderly, that is no longer the case.
The judiciary is NOT making Australia a safer place by giving violent criminals and sex offenders 2nd, 3rd an 4th chances at all, These people should be taken off the streets for as long as possible and if they need treatment or training gove it to them in jail Not on the street.

It makes sense and it's by the New York Times for goodness sake who should know something about it... it appears that the reduction in crime is to a large degree down to police training and police NOT cracking down with random frisk searches etc. So just the opposite of what you were citing the Juliani experience to prove. Seriously...
    Yes you are.
Have you been to New York?...Were you there in 2001? Are you aware of its reputation for no-go zones...well most people on tour with us when we were there in 2001 were, that's why we all made our inquiries, and driving through some areas from the airport, on the way to our hotel, one could understand why!
I'd never heard of this "Mayor Guilliani" (probably got the spelling wrong!) before we got there, but He was the person we were told by people, at the time, including the Police, that we spoke to, that had adopted the "Do The Time" policy. That's what we were all told by ordinary resident New Yorkers, not the Press, not Polies, just people we met, as you do, on holidays.
I'd never read anything in the Press before hand, nor have I needed to since, I'm simply repeating what I was told at the time, by ordinary people who lived & worked in New York....seriously.

Gossip and rumour are always more reliable than actual facts, eh? Especially if they confirm what you think you already know? Classic.

And the same old protagonists on here are always beating the same old sensationalist drum. They dont let the facts get in the way of their extreme right wing views.

Facts are that crime is decreasing and has been for years - exception is sexual assault where reports have increased - but that is most likely that those assaulted are now coming forward more often so increasing reports where the actual number of assaults has most likely not increased but cannot be confirmed.

Statistics can be manipulated to give any result that is desired, I have seen first hand the results of the **** weak judgements being handed down.
Delude yourself by all means But I won't swallow that line of BS.

Don't let the facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory - so the stats have been falsified - oh dear.
