It's that time again - lock the gates and get the hoses ready!

Just woke upto the world around me and found it's Halloween time again
Another yank legacy, just can't wait until Australia adopts starts celebrating "Thanks giving!"

So lock your gate and get the hoses ready.... and if you see any scary clown report to police.
Can't we have something uniquely Australian to celebrate

Made the mistake once of going on about this 'American Tradition' when I was working in a (non-American) International School. Had the Brits at me about how it's an English tradition going back way before European settlement in the states. And fair enough, as I found out.

It took the Americans to turn it into a commercial event, though.

I hate the idea of becoming any more Americanised than we already are, but without cracker night the kids are definitely short one good event night.

Of all the stupid things we've done heading towards becoming indistinguishable from yanks.... Halloween is not the worst.

I used to hate the idea of it, but I'm warming up to the fun aspect. Never done anything for it, and never had a kid at the door, but if I ever have grandkids I wouldn't fight the idea of Halloween.

Maybe take the time to read the full article on this tradition before dismissing it. Not being American I grew up with it and did enjoy a great Halloween in Scotland once , when travelling.

Well... I am American, grew up there with Halloween. It's not so bad for kids AND adults to have fun with it one day out of the year. I really don't think that taking part or having fun with it means that Americans are taking over..

I like Halloween. I carve a pumpkin and put it out the front and welcome all comers. How often do you really get to chat to your neighbours that are more than a few houses away? You find it generally only younger kids with their parents in tow from the immediate neighbourhood.

Life's too short to be a grump about everything.
