the D1, 2, 3, 4 or 5?
because the 5 will be an "old" model before a "new defender" is built.
I think i read the aluminium platform of the D5 will also be used under the Defender.

According to Dave Phillips of LRM, the new defender has been put back to 2019, and no one at Solihull has seen anything beyond the clay model stage. Everyone has a new defender story.
The bit that interests me is the 4wd Landscape in OZ in a couple of years time, I reckon it might be an interesting market space.

Don't forget that Renault are also releasing their own version of the Nissan ute. So you can add that one to the list below. Three vehicles both lightly badge engineered off the original Nissan platform with different price points depending on how big you want people to believe your wallet is.
Be interesting to see what happens to the Mitsubishi ute now that they have become part of Renault/Nissan. Two platforms one of which is only used by a single brand? So far the Renault/Nissan partnership has worked as Nissan had been the engineering hub with Renault badge engineering cars off Nissan

Done right this does work. Think of all the people who purchase a Mercedes A class. No one mentions it was designed by Chrysler for Mercedes.
Using aluminium instead of steel seems likely to save about 400kg in weight, which is a lot, and hopefully be just as strong.
