ID of English Bus on Miss Marple

    Hello All,

I just watched a Miss Marple played by Joan Hickson in an episode called Nemesis which featured an old bus in it. I grabbed a couple of screen shots off a YouTube clip that shows the front 3/4 shot and another shot of the back of the bus. Accessed October 26, 2016 from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE5u0KPbMhA

The episode title is incorrectly labelled it is actually Nemesis Part 1. The bus shots appear at the 27:30 mark. Gee the old buses had style and grace!

Can anyone identify the make and model of the bus?

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

The bus used in the show:

Apparently it was previously red but the producers repainted it for the show as they thought the red looked too much like a london bus.

In a previous life back in Pommy land - I was coming home from work on the train when the whole system shut down and we all had to get off and be bussed on to the end of the route. Such was the extent of the shutdown all available transport was bought into play and something very similar to this coach ( finished in Burgundy or Maroon and cream I think) turned up to take me and my fellow commuters onwards. Most people scoffed and seemed embarrassed to be seen on it - I loved it. We had something similar at my secondary school which we used to work on as part of Metalwork class. I've always loved the old Buses
    cheers,

    Hello IsuzuRover,

Thanks for the reply and for the identification.

A Leyland bus - almost in the family Land Rover wise. Well add twenty or so years from the date when the bus was manufactured and it would have been part of the stable.

I found a webpage about the Harrington Coach-builders - they did have a sense of great styling in some of their buses. Accessed October 27 , 2016 from, https://myntransportblog.com/2014/10/17/coachbuilders-harrington-sussex-england-uk-ii

The Observation Saloon Coach with the number plate LJ9501 does a bit of a Crocodile Dundee, "that's not a knife" regarding its rear "dorsal fin" compared to the 1950 Leyland's rear fin.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Lionel, this thread will have Fifth Columnist coming over all unnecessary.

An old bus like this would be beautiful as a motor home Ian.
I tried to track down a clipper to do,, but alas, none to be had when I was in the market.

Too slow Marcus, most Clippers were Perkadyne powered, a few had bird scarers (6/53) in them. Clippers should be restored, not mutilated.

    G'day Ian,

Not sure why anyone would object since I posted it under ...

It even has a Leyland connection . You know the former owners of Land Rover...

I don't think Laurie will object Lionel, quite the contrary.
