Have a look at our largest cities catchment area, and the mining going on underneath it, for the last century!

The Crown, which is state governments, owns mining rights, not the landowner. The landowner only has rights re. access to the land. Details such as property depths seem to vary between states. A state government as landowner can grant mining rights to a piece of Crown land, subject to lots of laws. That means no national park is safe from mining unless a law protects it from being mined. It's a lawyers picnic.

So all is not as it seems.

Certainly isn't. Nothing is guaranteed and it is always possible we may have to fight to protect everything.

Nothing is protected if there is $$$$$ in destroying it!

most national parks the general public can only access a small amount as the majority of it is gated off...with more and more access being restricted.

I see no problem in mining sections and rehabilitate.

Mining and worse still fracking can be an issue if they effect local waterways.
I mean reports of being able to light the water in the Sydney Brisbane and Illawarra catchment areas are worrying.(there are dozens of news articles on this)
But of more concern is the mob that may have set a coal seam alight west of Brisbane, but that's all hush hush denial etc. " but if you live within 300!km of the site don't dig below 2m" but there is a nothing in the soil of any concern!

Was talking to someone involved in fracking the other day and his conservative estimate is that 6 to 8% of bore linings leak when fracking. That means shallow layers are polluted with not only the proprietary chemicals involved but also the gas escaping where it shouldn't. I would HATE to live anywhere near such practices. Set your tap water on fire anyone......
