Thread: Need help finding an early 1900's train carriage around Perth

Try Southwest Rail and Heritage Center, there in Boyanup, just south of Bunbury, but they are an extension of the Rail Historical Society.. If you contact Rail Historical society in Bassendeen, they may also help as they have the largest collection of rolling stock and mostly static display... Offer of a donation helps too...

Pemberton Tramway is a private company, thats Ian Willis of Willis Engineering in Welshpool area...

Dwellingup/Pinjarra is the Hotham Valley Railway group...I thought they may help, but they do have few vintage Australian stock and thats used for the restaurant trains..

Bennett brook Rail group out at Whiteman park, did have some old WAGR carriages, but dont know if they have still or even restored...

Up at Merriden(on highway towards Kalgoorlie) they have a couple of passenger carriages at the railway station, but thats 250k's away...

Also in Northam there where a couple of passenger carriages, but I haven't seen them for quite some time...

I'll think of a few others, but mind block now...

Don't know of any in Balingup. Track goes straight through town and no siding there either.

The hippy commune have a lot of converted train carriages. There are some that look reasonably original. Based on what i have seen from the road.

I'd presume that he was looking for something along the lines of the verandah ended ones or at least containing the seats still...

The hippies would probably strip most of the bits out... i thought they would have the old country diesels that where sold when electric came...

Boulder Loopline ????

Last I heard, the old Y class loco was in the process of being renovated (saw a picture somewhere of it painted in grey primer). Don't know what condition the passenger coaches are in now though.



You could try giving the Loopline Railway Society a ring on 9093 3055.

I cant believe there running a Y class... BMKal, you wouldn't know if they have modified the electrics?
Ian Willis has a few in Pemberton and the electrics where the biggest headache.

Sorry - don't know anything about them really. But one thing is that none of their loco's (including the Y Class) has moved far in a very long time - they still don't have a track to run it on. Apparently they were given some money earlier this year and hoped to have something running between the Boulder station and the super pit lookout by the end of this year - but I'll believe that when I see it.

They have started painting up their loco's. The old B Class shunter has transformed from its original Westrail orange and blue livery to this ....



The most recent pic I've seen of the Y Class was from an ABC news article in January this year, where it appears that it has now been painted in red lead.



I would guess from this that it is going to end up in similar livery to the B Class.

They also have an old steam loco, a few passenger coaches in various states of overhaul, and I think there's an X Class in the shed as well. A bad storm late last year took the roof off one of their sheds and caused a bit of other damage to their gear, but they seem to have been doing some work towards getting something running since then.
