It might have been a case of bad timing Paul. They said - yes the same place I visited today .... that the price a couple of weeks ago was $35 per ton "light" for example car bodies. It is now $50 for the same grade.

Yes V8 Ian you are dead right about the liability aspect of the Series III. I have never had something I have poured money into with so little satisfaction. One day I will get at least one on the road :)

I have to admit it though - when I take Batty for a bash in the paddock I am usually seen with a very big grin on my face as I am getting thrown about by the nice "soft" military suspension.
Very enjoyable even if Batty smokes a bit... :burnrubber:

By the way Batty is Number Two in the closest to road readiness stakes. Number One - Rebus is out of action for a while. Starter motor, fuel delivery, carburettor and transmission issues need to be sorted out when I have some discretionary spending..

Gee I think I can just recall what the concept of "discretionary spending" refers to ... it has been quite some time though since I have been able to put theory into practice. Now that is funny - that time coincided with not having a relationship to a certain government department either - oh the good old days! I remember when .... :wheelchair:

I missed a visit from a WA member on sunday,I called him back.
Many of you know Johnno,or HBWC,or the Hill Billy in the wheel chair.
He is a paraplegic due to a dirt bike accident as a teenager.
I told him all the hassles Deb was having with Centerlink,what he hit me up with left me gobsmacked.
Centerlink now see paraplegia is not a disability,in this age he can do normal work and are trying to remove his disability support pension and put him on Newstart:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::m ad::mad:

Johno has lots of wrist problems so now is having to add them to his disability to try and remain on the disability support pension.

While I did not mention any departmental names ....

There is a department whose reputation precedes them. The words "oh the humanity" do not seem to the fore of their vocabulary either.

Part of my mutual obligation commitment is fulfilled by my applying for jobs with them. I concentrate on making a particular effort to make it a genuine application. Yet for some strange reason I have not been successful in gaining a position with them.

Obviously you want the minimum scrap value in this case.

Which would be the steel price minus transport and environmental levy.
Our local place says they will fine you $1000 if lead acid batteries are not removed.

However if you are actually taking a landrover to the scrap they would likely give you a "mixed metals" price for some of it.

That's a pretty cheeky Govt department! Whats that all about? I'd be tempted to say get lost...

As it turns out my approach of scrap metal value was pretty close to the Client Officer's definition of the worth of the house contents ... not "insured value or the replacement value. What would the Garage Sale value be?"

What is the value of an unrestored Land Rover Series III that is not registered or insured for the road? The equivalent of a garage sale in the vehicular world - the big common denominator ... "Hello Scrappy".

Much better to put down the scrappy price for each vehicle than The Castle inspired eBay prices of "Tell 'em they're dreamin'" :eek:

Some of the best returns I get for scrap are lead acid batteries.

About 3 or 4 times a year I take an 8x5 trailer load of mixed scrap to the local place. Along with drink bottles (10c each). Usually come out $150 - $200 up. Nice pocket money.

If people have a mutual obligation with a certain government department to apply for "X" number of jobs here is something that might be handy to know. There are online recruiters who only require an online "Apply" button to be pressed. Then they ask you to upload your resume... press "submit" and job applied for! Mutual obligation 1 out of "X' ticked. ....

I am applying for jobs that fit my vocation and I would be happy to work in any of the jobs.

One job asks "do you have experience in a, b, c, d?" Each one matches my old vocation that I had to leave because of my eyes. Then it mentions a second skill set in research that matches my current vocation to the letter. The job involves knowledge in my old field not so much working in the physical environment in real life - that brought about issues with my eyes. Cross fingers

It also means I have more time available to devote on attempting to complete my PhD early next year. Courses above Masters are not approved by the government department in question and I am a self-funded student. If I was doing a Certificate 3 I would not have to apply for any jobs.

I am aiming at becoming self-employed once I get the "Dr Lionel" part sorted out so I can then set about getting some income back from all my studies. The damn thing owes me big time!
