Go the multifocals with transition lenses.

after the two days getting used to them (the floor and where you put your feet down gets a bit funny) you will forget you have them on.

Had mine for about 10 years they are great

Yes, my wife complains I don't answer her and insisted I have a hearing test, which came back normal, so now I just say I heard her, but I'm ignoring her, which doesn't make me popular.
Mind you, I complain my wife doesn't answer my questions, but just says something different, leaving me to have to repeat the question to get the answer I needed.

Yep, miltifocals are the way to go - I've just had my first eye test in a few years and I knew my reading sript would need tightening up - which it did.

They are brilliant - I took to them within about a minute - I've been wearing glasses since I was 6 so the Optomostrist said I'd have an easier time getting used to them - it came very natually to me, BUT they are something you either love or hate by all accounts. While my Wife, Daughter and myself wear them and love them, the FIL hated his, and couldn't get used to them - as have a couple of other people I know.

My last set were transitions and i liked them, but this time around i went for a set of dedicated prescription sunglasses as well as the transitions don't work when driving.

Saw this on Facebook today: "Before I got married I didn't even know there was a wrong way to put milk back in the fridge"!

    Beats the alternative
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
