    Garage floor coatings or paints.

Has anyone out there had a coating or paint or resin put onto your garage/driveway concrete, to stop oil and other liquids from soaking in & staining ?
I'm thinking of a product I saw at SuperRubbish, looks like a two-part Magic Brew with a price to match... or would an industrial-strength 'paint' be the way to go.
I've just broken in my New Pressure Washer, 3 hours on half the car-port, with the other side to go. The concrete looks so clean,,,, that I want to keep it that way, or hide it with a fancy coating. I'd prefer the oil etc to sit on top, to be wiped away instead of blasting it out...

    Any suggestions ?

I assume you mean a standard concrete surface is being painted, so for something a bit cheaper use Berger Jet Dry.

Next up the line would be Dulux Durebild.

For an industrial strength the International Paints Interplus 1180. Expensive and also needs an acid wash before application but very strong wearing.

    floor coatings

We painted a shed floor with two coats of cheap water based fence paint about 7 years ago and it is only just now looking like it needs to be redone on the main traffic areas. I looked at getting our new shed floor done when we built it but at the time we needed to store stuff in it and its never been clear enough to do since.
As I do full servicing, welding metal fab and pretty much anything on it including a small forklift the steel trowelled surface handles it ok. Where the hoist is I lay cheap outdoor carpet down and replace it after a few oil spills.

    Garage floor coatings or paints.

My workshop floor is sealed using Rustoleum 2 part...

You can see the coating and the plain concrete in this image.. (and the Samoyed)

I've been thinking about this lately. It appears no matter what coating you use, if you drive on it ... and work on it, it gets damaged (quite quickly).

I'm starting to thing a really cheap roll of vinyl floor covering would allow you to keep a clean "moppable" work area. If it gets melted, chipped and trashed, roll it up, chuck it away and replace it!

I've have just been googling ... This is cheaper than using fancy paint kits.

11 tiles is 1 meter squared. So a 6 x 6 meter garage is going to be 66 tiles. So we are at $264 ... and you can mop them ... pull them up and take them with you if you shift. and replace any you damage.

I wonder if there any good for a "real" workshop. If there just for poeple that care about looks and fashion.... they'd be trashed within a couiple of weeks in my shed.

I went with light acid etch and Resene Pavement Paint rolled on
It has held up well to stupid amounts of welding grinding mechaniking since 2009
Needs a touch up now but as a rule oil to ground is still just wipe up with a rag?

One day I'll clean enough out to re-coat the high use central area

Anyways can't remember price but was less than $200 to do 10x15m shed floor

Would definitely recommend doing something to keep oil from soaking in to the Crete

Talk to Albert at Danlaid in Balcatta. The company does mostly commercial flooring but I think he does the occasional residential property too. He will be able to point you in the right direction.

Looks superb for new car or 'decorative' garages, but one teeny weakness... they aren't liquid-proof on the joints. Drop enough litres on them, and you'll get seepage underneath...into the concrete.

The cheap roll of Vinyl is looking good. Up till now I've placed heavy carpet tiles on the ground, vehicle centre/front for most cars, and 'everywhere' for the Range Rover. Once they fill up, straight into the bin. Or can be pressure-washed.

    What joints!
When I specked my slab I spoke with the builder - he was happy for smooth powered finish no expansion joints - 10m x 15m slab with 100mm step down to first boat lean too

Slab diagonals and dims were within 2mm once cured

I can't find a single significant crack in 8 years of use

BUT Cooktown has very very stable all year round ground and air temps
The slab likely varies less than 10 degrees year round

Love not having joints for dust and **** to gather
