Not as safe... but I have a corded dinky little toy makita electric chainsaw. Slower than a petrol saw, but nothing short of brilliant...... You do however need a powerpoint nearby.
I actually figure from a safety perspective the small ( especially electric) chainsaws are far more dangerous than a a dirty big grunty petrol engined saw. As it's so light, effortless and quiet to use, your not going to be half as careful as you would be with a big petrol saw. You can easily reach above your head and use it one handed for pruning for example :eek: :eek: (no I don't do this ... but I could!).
