It would appera they have changed version 18269 with version 18871. I wonder how that is happening? coulc it be some form of counter?

G`day , maybe it`s still there but not here .

With the email alert that can be received for posted threads the link works on that .

They have many arms but it may be just coincidence .

If you click on the link in the quote it works too .

I just had a read of the terms and conditions and to me it pretty much says , if you are a member and they require a change of anything , you will know about it .

I also take that for roads as long as a normal 2 WD vehicle can negotiate it and oncoming vehicles can pass safely and it is a public hwy ( link ) and not a logging or forestry service track , there will be cover .

There are other exclusions as said before covered in section 7 page 12 , like beaches and creek beds ETC and if your on a footy oval and you know to get it off before contact you`ll be right .

I asked about this. She told me it didn't mean that you need to get the car off before contact. She said is means that if you break down in a large car park like a shopping centre etc, instead of RACV driving around looking for you, they will require you to meet them at a pre-determined meeting point and then you show them where your car is parked.

I do plan to ask for a response to my email in writing. I noticed that although Grumbles emailed them they only phoned him back. So I wonder if they will answer me in writing even if I request it.

If they term it unsafe, or choose not to do the recovery - there is nothing you can do about it.

I think that's fair enough too. Given some of the places we all get into from time to time it would be unreasonable to expect blanket coverage from a motoring organisation. Surely it would also detract from the sense of adventure that 4wding is supposed to be about.

I think in this day and age the reality is they need a clause like that. If there is 2wd access and the recovery can be done in safety then I would expect them to make every reasonable effort to recover me. Otherwise I expect to have to pay for specialised recovery services or rely on mates (or AULRO premium care!)

The only time I've needed to use the NRMA's premium cover was due to an off-road incident. I was luckily able to get myself to a location where I was recoverable by 2wd drive tilt tray. Once I managed to get through the RACV's standard call centre, which was a painful experience (I was in Victoria at the time) and on to the NRMA's premium people, they were nothing short of brilliant.

I can also vouch for the RACV agent in Bright. A young bloke who was run off his feet at the time, but extremely helpful.

Agreed anywhere anything is done certain types will misuse the authority they are given .

I`d suggest most RACV operators are just normal type people and actually want to be helpful .

In the T/C for RACV it says if the operator deems it in a hazardous place the RACV may dispatch a tow truck to move it to a safe location .

If you feel operators discretion for safety is a problem had you noticed that if the operator deems the vehicle unroadworthy they can knock you back .

I would think that almost any vehicle could be found to be unroadworthy if the certain type of person mentioned earlier was involved .

I could be wrong but as i understand it the operator answers to the RACV and if the people in trouble have a phone they can discuss with , send picture/video to the RACV if they feel wronged .

I feel the wording of the T/C is so they have an out if needed and with some people it would be a definite need but i think with the majority there would be no problem .

After actually reading the Terms and Conditions for RACV Total Care and reading this thread I have no problem with them and it suits my needs .

I did put earlier that certain clarification was needed but that was before i actually read the document which was not very clever on my part , i do however understand other peoples uncertainty and will be happy to read anything found .

Ok, time I took this back to the MAIN POINT of my complaint.

I accepted that RACV could/would not recover my vehicle from the 4wd track I was on. If I had been recovered I would certainly have been willing to pay for that.

My complaint is based around their total rejection of ANY request for assistance because the incident had occurred 'whilst 4wding'. THIS is the crux of the matter. Once I had called them and told them honestly what had happened, RACV washed their hands of the entire incident.

I suggested to them that we may be able to get the car to a road, they insisted on several occasions that since the breakdown happened on a 4wd track that the breakdown was not covered in any way. Had they offered to pick up the car from a road, there would have been no need for Marcus To drive all the way there with a trailer, we would have simply towed the car out to the bitumen and gone from there.

The situation 2 days later where I needed to get the car to Dandenong met the same response......... the breakdown occurred on a 4wd track and you were 4wding.

THAT is the basis for my total dissatisfaction with the service offered.

Basically, if you do breakdown on a 4wd track you need to LIE. I think this is a bad thing

And it is plain ridiculous ... IMHO they need to learn & understand what is meant by the words service, assistance and help. Maybe we can start a campaign to have this stupidity addressed in a meaningful way.
