Another aspect of RACV membership/total care is that the member is covered no matter what vehicle they are driving, not just their nominated vehicle.

What I have done is nominate my wife's vehicle for total care which gives me peace of mind for whenever and wherever she is traveling.

As we travel in the OKA which is also our 'house on wheels' we are covered for a period of accommodation should the OKA be off the road due to breakdown etc as well as the other benefits. Not so much an issue for caravaners/campers but when you're like a tortoise and carry your house on your back a useful benefit.

So for one membership/total care subscription we are well covered when touring and as a bonus my wife is fully covered wherever she might be for the rest of the year

We use it in a similar way Deano.

My wife is the person who's name the membership is in... so she is covered what every she is driving.

My D4 is the current nominated vehicle... as it is the one that is more likely to be used miles from home or on holiday trips.

Effectively getting 2 covers in one.

I'm with Total Care. I've used the flat bed option several times. Once I was out in the Merc. The fuel line rubbed through. I asked the operator to ask the man in the little yellow van to bring out some fuel hose of the correct diameter, which he did. I wasn't even late for lunch.

Reading through this, I reckon Wardy got a call centre attendand who lacked sufficient product knowledge. I recommend further training.

I reckon our vehicle (and people) transport from Bega to home equated to quite a few years of membership fees. IMHO, self-insurance can be cheaper, but it's not a given.

No , he arrived 4 hours later, didn't start rolling straight away.
obviously was doing another job first. only took 1.5 hours to get back once loaded.

UMMM MA, So you have to tell them a fib and tell them your wife was driving, even though you won't let her drive the Ockra (OKA)

And Deano As I know that you travel where there are no roads and dodge Termite mounds and meter high spinifex, are they going to come out when you break down?

And you keep telling my Ockras are reliable and don't break down then if would be a waste of money as you wouldn't need their service.

Funny if they said to you " House on Wheels, that you have accommodation already, just sleep in the Ockra whilst it's up on the hoist getting fixed.

I was told by the driver that a truck ride from the Gold Coast to Brisbane would have cost about $450 so I was glad to be in the RACQ.

Well, I finally got an answer from RACV, and it was in writing. The main bit was

RACV Roadside, Extra or Total Care products provide service on private properties or on any public highways in Victoria, provided they are trafficable to normal two wheel drive vehicles. This excludes areas such as open fields, beaches, creek beds, recreation ovals, bicycle paths, bicycle tracks, logging or forest service roads and roads which do not allow oncoming traffic to safely pass.
RACV are unable to be provide a guarantee of assistance, however every effort would be made by RACV to assist you, or a commercial alternative offered. Thank you for taking the time to bring this matter to our attention and allowing us the opportunity to respond to your concern

I rang the person who wrote me the email and asked. If I break down on an inaccessible road but then are able to get my vehicle to a trafficable two wheel drive safe road, will you then pick me up. He said yes. I asked him to please put that in writing as well, as we have been told differently, but he declined, saying that it is already implied above. Sorry but I can't see how that is implied above . I also asked him why myself and my friend were told at three different times, that the RACV would not pick up from National or State Parks and he could not answer this. He apologised that the information given by RACV has not been consistent. I asked what was being done to prevent these people giving out the wrong information again and he then asked for the names, dates and times of when the Fountain Gate Office rang Total Care, so he could check the recordings and then chase it up. I had already provided all this information to him in the email I had sent them two weeks ago, the one that he was now responding too. Obviously, he either has not read my email fully or has just not bothered investigating which of their consultants are giving incorrect information out . I am glad that it appears that the information I was given about National and State Parks was wrong but I am a bit annoyed that after I informed them in writing, along with the proof of names, times of recorded calls etc, no one has bothered to chase it up and make sure that the staff answering queries from Total Care, is giving out the correct information. I can only hope that now after speaking to them again, they make sure that their staff are better trained.

I notice the email says it excludes 'logging or forest service roads' so I wonder if that means state forests and national parks.
