Actually it's not cheap at all if you want low range , terrain response 2 and airbags as the minimum is $86,000 in the SE TD6. Your not allowed both low and TR2 in the s td6.
So LR is really pushing it upmarket and selling on image not actual performance!
Their basically following merc and VW who made the off-road transfer case / gear an option on their full size 4wds and made their sales into 98% RAV4 oversized wagons.
The future problems for both new and second hand buyers will be that anyone who ticks both LR and TR2 will have their car regarded by dealers as being used/abused off-road , so valued less, but that could be covered by the second hand buyers who actually want to use it off-road and make models with both options worth more privately.
See currently if you want a d3/4 for off-road they all have LR and TR, the only option is a locker and tyres. This means you can buy a "soccer mums" d3/4 and be reasonably sure it hasn't hit any more dirt than a grassed parking lot. You know it hasn't gone swimming in salt water or being waddling through mud, but with the new discovery the reverse is true.

Meh, the D3 SE with a locking diff and an uprated stereo cost $82K in 2008, $85K for one with the offload goodies sounds reasonable. Would probably prefer the v6 like most of the buyers I reckon though.

The D3 would have had 7 seats and include on roads.

I doubt that $85K will buy the same.

    SE SD4 would do me.

    My D4 in 2012 was around $76K drive away,with E diff,7 seats,but 2.7 not 3.0L.

That uprated stereo makes all the difference.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

The d5 is also 20% lighter and the 7 seat option is another $3500, so to get a straight 6 with same d3 options is about $90,000 or in butchers terms, you paid $33/kg for a d3 SE and now for a d5 SE It's $45/kg

There is no straight 6 available - the "TD6" is a single ball bearing turbo version of the current TD/SDV6

According to LR's spec sheet the single speed transfer case is only available on the 4 pot engines and the "S" TD6 (S model not available until some time after they go on sale) and the 2 speed is an option IF you choose a 4 pot ingenium SD4 (not TD4) in the S for $920.. standard on the SE if you pick the SD4 or bigger engine.

Yup sorry about td and tdv, most articles spoke about the ingenium ( ding for short) being modular in 3-6cyl options. Jaguar working on straight-six Ingenium engine – report

Yes you can have dual range in sd4 base spec S but not TR2 as well, that's the point!

Who really cares about TR2? All it has over the base TR is ATPC and "Auto" - still has everything else

Then why spend $xxx millions even developing TR2 or TR for that matter?
You might as well just offer front rear and middle difflocks, with a sensor that goes off when your bogged to your axles or you snap an axle turning locked on hard surfaces ,saying " learn to drive scumbag"?
All the disco2's (and majority 90/110 defenders ) got TC, afaik majority if not all d3/4 got TR only base models didn't get airbag suspension.

The D5 without TR2 still have a "base model" TR - it still has all the modes except ATPC (All Terain Progress Control - low speed off road criuise control) and "Auto" - that's the difference. It is not as if it is TR2 or nothing.
