Woolies Sell Its Service Stations to BP

Woolies has announced that it is selling its service stations to BP.

Now where I live the only local garage is a Woolies station and these sell Caltex so in the future will sell BP fuel.

Not a problem for my RRS TDV6 but an issue for my 101 and Haflinger. I cannot speak for the rest of Australia but all my local BP garages do not sell normal 91 Unleaded but sell 91 Unleaded with Ethanol - similar to E10 but different, but charge the unleaded price, not the E10 price.

Now the pros and cons of E10 have been discussed extensively so really a new discussion is not needed (as is the issue of shopper dockets), suffice to say if I had a new petrol vehicle I would consider E10 but I will not use it in my old vehicles due to old rubber products in the fuel systems.

So when the Woolies garage does change from Caltex to BP I will continue to refuel the RRS locally but will have to drive a few km to get 91 unleaded for the other vehicles.

Here in Vic., 91 contains no ethanol. E10 contains up to 10% ethanol. It is a legal requirement to advise how much ethanol is in these fuels.
I understand your frustration, Gary. You'll just have to give your 101 to me so I can run it on the good stuff.

Does 95 contain ethanol up your way?

Why do they insist on blending fuels, anyway. Why don't they produce cars that run on 100% ethanol.
There was a 1920s vintage vehicle running around Adelaide some years back that had been converted to run on ethanol.

Because if all cars ran on 100% ethanol it would be impossible to produce enough fuel.

No, not all cars, some cars, like some were produced to run on LPG only.
Then they will not have to blend ethanol into fuel. Maybe target their market by producing an ethanol fuelled Prius.

The biggest issue I will have with this is that my company vehcile has a star card which I use about 50% of the time at woollies outlets as they are everywhere. I'll have to keep a closer eye on the tank and look for actual Caltex servos now.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Gav, you will probably find that Coates just move to BP cards if it becomes problematic .... most of the lease companies work with BP, Shell and Star cards anyway....

I used to have a Mobil card. When Caltex swallowed up Mobil, I was automatically issued with Caltex card.

My biggest concern is reducing competition, even though we all know that they conclude with each other.

Its just that one day, maybe, just maybe, they will get caught.
However, the less there are the less chance of this happening.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

I thought maybe 7/11 had swallowed up Mobil, seems all their servos have Mobil fuel.

My Defender definitely runs better on BP diesel compared to Caltex. ...Smoother, more power, better economy.
