SE QLD drivers don't know how to indicate at round a bouts

Indicating on roundabouts stumps south-east Queenslanders, RACQ says

ABC says SE Qlds have no idea how to indicate at round a bouts, I think people in Victoria don't either, don't know if the other states do, or whether indicators are an optional accessory that most drives don't buy when the buy their vehicles.

I often find it funny that some drivers of expensive cars like Bmws and Mercs Audis around here etc only buy the poverty pack model and don't pay the extra for the optional indicators!

Indicators are optional on ALL cars in Qld!!! Didn't you know that?
In spite of all the advertising that goes on with roundabout rules most drivers up this way still don't know the correct rules about indicating. And merging lanes - that's another one!!

re merging lanes LOL , Oh some of Victorians know how to merge on freeways, they safely drive down the freeway on ramp doing 60kph and then merge into traffic traveling at 100kph, they then close their eyes so to be oblivious of all the drivers behind they have caused to nearly pile up, then take their time to speed up to the speed limit.

Another thing some are very good at is zippering when 2 lanes merge into 1.
Road work signs saying the lane is ending and merge into the next lane. Most drivers will merge into the lane required, but there is always some one that will speed up the lane that's now empty as all others have merged, and then get to the front of the line and zoom in and cut off all the others who did the right thing.

You just need to have an extra set of eyes when your driving these days .

60% got it wrong according to that report. That's better than the 99% who get it wrong in NSW, including the Police.

Drivers in Bathurst have no idea about indicating at roundabouts neither. They're absolutely hopeless. They also don't know what a lane is or that green means go at traffic lights. Whilst I don't like the rush and proximity of Sydney traffic (takes me about 5 mins to adjust my driving style), it's safer to drive there.

    .
The drivers that go to the end of the lane which is ending, then merge across, are doing it right. The most efficient use of the road is to use both of the lanes right up to the end. That will reduce the tailback which is caused by too many people changing lanes early.

It ****es off those that are already stopped and waiting there turn patiently.
It's like a supermarket check out , you line up and some one then cuts in front.
So if you come to road works and there is stop light, you have been waiting patiently in turn to proceed, and then some one zips past you gives a flash of their indicator and cuts in front, gets through the stop light, and all others who waited patiently miss their chance and have to wait again for the road work lights to change , that's just
    arrogance.

I can't be held responsible for the poor driving skills of others!

Note that I said "merge across" not "cut in front".

    I'm with big Jon ...

Ever wonder about 2 things when cars are sitting there waiting 'patiently' to merge?

    1. Why there is so much unused tarmac? Why did we waste tax payers money on that when nobody ever uses it?

    2. Why is the traffic light behind me clogged and why are there so many cars in the right lane?

Let's add a third ... why do we get pulse gridlocks on our motorways every time we get close to a merge?

Seriously .... its not rocket science.

Answer to #1and #2 and #3 ... Because if Australians ever did attempt to use the full lane they wouldn't get let in. We're now conditioned to not even try. We now sit 'waiting patiently' whilst blocking the freakin road and intersection behind us. The inability to merge has now got so bad it locks up every bloody highway and dual carriageway in the country. We also drive like we are in America, gravitate to the right .... it's ridiculous!

I'm sorry mate, that's what gives me the ****s. The modelling is sound regarding clearing traffic from intersections before merging ... it's not an emergency lane....all that tarmac is there for a reason .... shame nobody notices. The merging principle is identical at any point of the road (if common sense and courtesy is applied) but the flow-on effect is vastly different if you chose to merge on/at/near an intersection/traffic lights/roundabout.

Yet we all whinge about building traffic delays, etc, etc, etc....
