I think the sump was the weak link. Prob cast alloy and with heaps of boost it couldnt handle the strain of the rotating mass spinning so hard

More likely the block/main bearing bolts were not strong enough to withstand the force on the pistons. If you think about it, the force that is pushing the piston down is equalled by the force pushing the block and cylinder head up, with the load being concentrated on the main bearing bolts and the bit of the block they are attached to.Quote:
