Thanks Ian, but I was very fortunate that I had a good base vehicle alhough I didn't know that at the time, it "appeared" ok so that was good enough for me (what could possibly go wrong?). ie. Only chassis surface rust but full of fine dust from up North in SA which hosed out ok, Straight Chassis, no bent panels, one or two oil leaks [bigrolf] but no probs now. Was a Truck Cab but I didn't want that & canvas is so much quieter to drive in imho. So new Tilt. ex Mil but new.
Stripped right down to sit on axle stands for a few months then upwards we went. Paint job of 2 pack, gear box was the later mod. All else I did the hard way after purchasing WS manuals. (Pt. 1 &2) Had a SH Parts book to ID bits so it was like building a Mecanno Model. She was a 1966 build, Knock down for Australia.
Not too bad for what was supposed to be an ex Sheep/Cattle (?) station vehicle & it had been looked after & had sat in a bloke's back yard near here until I went knocking. He wasn't at home but his wife just said "Take it I want that space for a garden bed" & bugger me dead as we finalised our arrangement the geezer turned up (Had been out on a Birthday gift Harley Ride) " Oi" he sez "I want some money for that" Bugger, rumbled! :bat: Since he still had his two big & hairy Harley mates there, I didn't haggle too much.[biggrin] We agreed on $500 I was back within the hour with a car Trailer & she now had a new home. No, not his Missus, the LR.
He had bought it for a "Town Car" for his son to run around in. Son apparently was displeased & told him to shove it.
The Winch came later by a stroke of luck & was off an Ex SA Police 109" Search & Rescue 2A & COMPLETE. & sitting in another bloke's shed. Bloody hell! Usually they are missing a few/lots of components but not this baby. Bought a new synthetic 50' Winch Rope from a Yacht Chandler. Is ok, but can be a bit slippery but I would buy different next time assuming there is going to be one.
Brush Bar & Rear seats I picked up from some LR Geezers but here now, the bar seems a bit superfluous so that might get the heave ho. Is hot dip Galvanised with a sort of bituminous coating (?????)
She now leads a quiet life in a large shed with not a lot of use but cleaned & serviced now & then with a suitable Battery Charger on her & used mainly now for spraying with a 100 Litre tank in the back.
Last "Major" repairs were to replace the Clutch MC piston seals & lower Bulkhead Mounted Push to Start Switch.
The M/C had previously been Stainless Steel sleeved while in my care so was ok, just required a bit of a cleanup & seals.
Mileage before I replaced the MPH Speedo was 75231 but not sure about the last digit whether it is a .1 or a 1
And the bloke still hasn't got his Garden Bed.[bigsad]
:Rolling:
