In Italy, there's a similar tale (and probably other countries as well) of a railway dog. In the railway station in Campiglia Marittima, there's a statue of "Lampo", who rode the rails through the 1950s until his death early in the next decade. Lampo had a regular round of local train trips and also criss-crossed Italy when the mood took him. As far as I can remember, there is only one record of Lampo "missing his stop" when coming home to Campiglia Marittima: he is reported to have promptly disembarked (Oh, the ground for puns...) at the next station, changed platforms and promptly returned.
