My last 5 cars have been a 300Tdi Disco, New 2003 Td5 Defender, 300Tdi Defender, 3ltr Prado 120 series and the Puma for the last nearly 5 years.
1 breakdown amongst that lot and that was the Defender Td5 which had a dodgy TPO (Throttle potentiometer) but LR recovered us from Newman OK. Then I got the 300Tdi Defender and spent heaps on that before getting shot of it.
Now I've a Disco4 and the Puma is up for sale soon as I've finished cleaning to my standards.
But elder bro used to reckon his and the wife "his and her" Rangies (about 12 over 2 years or so) could find their own way back to the dealers due to niggling faults but their Lexus hybrid thing was totally faultless. Pity about he cost in Switzerland of a replacement battery pack after about 8 years though. :D
Now they've had Freelander2 for about 5 years and it's been fairly good.
Younger bro has had a RR Sport (first 4 wheel drive) for nearly 3 years and now it's nearly out of warranty his eyes are fixed firmly on a new Bentley....
Nothing too wrong with the RRS except the black smoke out the black when he thrashes it! :o
And he loves thrashing a motor. :D
Overall I think they're reasonably reliable vehicles, just a pity there's very few agents who can fix them (Landies) in the far north etc.

This morning I had the opportunity to ask the perpetrator of this nonsense to clarify just what it was that his mate (or the relation of a friend of his mate) had seen in the RR handbook.
He repeated the same claim so I suggested that his mate was probably having him on since I had searched a lot of online RR handbooks and found no such thing and that none of the RR owners who had checked their handbooks had found anything like that.
He acknowledged that it was ridiculous to think that any vehicle handbook would have such a statement and he looked so sheepish and embarrassed, that I offered the suggestion that it might have something to do with space saver spares, run flat tyres or roadside assist towing.
The enthusiasm with which he embraced those possibilities suggested to me that he felt rather foolish about having told his original story.
I don't imagine he will learn from the experience. (Maybe I was too kind.) It just seems to be in his nature to repeat anything that confirms his beliefs, no matter how unlikely it is.

Works for a News Service then?

Some people seem programmed to automatically agree with the last person who spoke to them. Another word for that is 'gullible'.
