How Long Do You Hang On To Parts

About 3 years ago I bought a guy's collection of Rover & Land Rover parts that I have been slowly selling . I decided to do another cull over the weekend & filled the back of my Falcon Ute with Rover parts to take for scrap. I received $75 for my trouble.
My question how long do you hang on to old car parts that people keep saying I will come & see what you have & never turn up even when the make an appointment they don't turn up. Most Rover car people want you to hold on to the parts until they need them so they don't have to store them.
To me the Rover parts are worth more as scrap as nobody is restoring old Rovers here in Brisbane.
I only dumped a couple of LR parts & the rest I will hang on to them a while longer .
There are still quite a few new LR & RR parts including switches, relays & cables that I have not been able to identify as I do not have enough different parts books .
There are engine parts , bearings sets that are non genuine & most are STD sizes so are probably of no use to anybody as most vehicles require O/S by now.

People not turning up for something you are giving away for free really ****es me off. I can see there is no incentive from their part - they're not losing time or money so why give a ****?

I found the best way of getting rid of stuff is to advertise a "Garage Giveaway" for all the stuff you want rid of that might be useful to someone else. Just put it out the front of your house/property and make it known that it is first come, first served for a limited time on a certain date. Anyone who is serious about taking something will make the effort. Anything left over goes to the tip/scrapyard.

I did another giveaway at the weekend. Everything I wanted shot of was put out on the driveway at 10am. It was all gone by 10:15. Had I just put up an advert for the stuff I will have no doubt got messages off people asking me to hold on to stuff until they came and collected it. This way the responsibility to get the stuff is on them.

I'm in the process of cleaning out / re-arranging my shed at the moment. In doing so, I have come across a few D2 parts and accessories plus a few bits for Prado 120. I haven't had either of these cars for some years now.

Did manage to give away a D2 front bumper that was hanging up on the wall of the shed recently. Now only have a bonnet protector and a couple of belts & hoses. Prado stuff will go this week - I have a couple of mates locally who have them.
    Cheers .........

This was my 3rd trip to scrap man , have received around 600 dollars for scrap parts so far. It is almost down to a manageable size to store . I dont want to dump too many LR parts I sent a large box to my mate in Tasmania for his 88inch S1 just last week including a new speedo, told him it was all for Christmas.

Till you need the space for something more important

With special parts like old Landy stuff becoming rarer and if you have it catalogued it and have the room you keep it.

If you have no further interest, offer it to another Landy nut who may take good care of it and see it is used.

If you need the space and need it gone then your trips to the salvage yard might be the best option, but, only you have the correct (for you) answer.

    Regards

    Mike

Excellent, I won't feel so bad now when I try and squeeze into my garage past bits from vehicles I haven't owned for years but NOT that long! Ellen

I still have the box that my Johnson Holden Conversion kit came in, back in 1974, for a series one that I owned back then.
Oh..and I still have got the "girlfriend" I had back then too..only now she is my wife!
    This sums up my shed/s.

    Cheers, Mick.
