Thread: Ex-Telstra 130 - Strengthend chassis/diff

Hi David,

I'd be very reluctant to purchase an ex-fleet vehicle with that many km's even if it was serviced every 10k. It is also at the high end of the price range, you'd expect to pay $25k for something with proven full service history, in perfect condition and with much less km's. This is what the Redbook site came up with based on a 2000 model:

Prices based on km 70,000 - 120,000
Trade in price guide* $16,700 - $19,200
National average price - private sale* $20,500 - $24,100

If he was looking at $18K - $20k it might be worth it. What extras are included?

I am with greylandy on this one, steer clear of it and get something better for your money. George130 picked his up with rear diff lock, performance chip, maxi axles and **** load of other goodies for around that price. You will get a much better vehicle than that for the same money. Not to mention that every man and his dog has probably driven and flogged the hell out of it. Matt

the diff are most likley laminated and the center's would be
lockers. betting on ARB.
and i think you can get chassis stiffner kits.

There is a stock standard one in canberra for that price but it only has 120,000 km on it. As Ace said Mine has more fruit that a green groser and only had 72,000 on the clock 2001 model for $30,000. Shop around abit and also get this one inspected if you realy like it.

Discowhite - Can I ask what a laminated diff is? I like the ARB air lockers, as I've got front and rear ARBs in my 97 Disco.

GreyLandy - I did look up the redbook price and I agree that $25K is on the high side.

He has had the head & gearbox (incl clutch & seals on transfer case) done recently, as well as the power steering.

Build date is 07/2000, so I think it misses out on the 'plastic' head dowels problem, and he's replace the wiring loom to the ECU (this is a std recall item I think).

The problem is with 4wd's spud boy is that 18000k in accessories doesnt make it worth that much more. I still think $25k is a bit to high given the km's, but in the end it all comes down to what you want from the vehicle. I looks to be well set up, and if you are going to go out and spend that much on the same accessories it might be worth while. Because if you buy one with lower km's for roughly the same price, but it is relatively accessory free you then have to spend the dollars buying the bits, you could buy the other one with the bits and spend the money on a new engine if it has been flogged. You never know it could be perfect and might go for another 200000km. Matt

they basically add another case to the entire diff. from axle flange
to axle flange. this is for anything that carrys ALOT of weight.
to stop the diff turning into a banana.
