Solar Panel Voltage Control

The electrolyte used, washing soda, or sodium carbonate, is the active ingredient in 'sugar soap' used to remove grease for painting, and has been used since prehistoric times (soda-ash) for degreasing. I don't think you need worry about grease. Some forms of synthetic paint may be an issue though.

Many years ago, I used to work as a Fire Assayer in a laboratory on a gold mine. One of the major ingredients of the flux we used to mix for the fire assay process was soda ash - we had it in bulk quantities.

Some of it always found its way home to be used in the laundry and for other cleaning purposes. :D
