Electricity wiring question..

Nearly every bath I see is installed like that.
As for the wiring, don't like the cable running through with the gas pipe, also the one clipped so close to the edge of the stud.

That is one method for bath install that is acceptable. Quite normal to check into the wall as they have done. As long as meets the requirements of the National Construction Code its acceptable.
I sit my final interview to become a Registered Builder next week so I've been studying hard and am pretty up to date on standards.
One change I would ask for is to use cement sheet behind tiles not the aquacheck plaster.
Yes doing bathroom renos is never fun.

If you are concerned about the builders work get the free publication from the VBA titled Standards and Tolerances, its published to help resolve disputes like these.

Get them to put another row of noggins just above bath all around as well.

Reminds me of the hotel I stayed at in Yangon where the powerpoint for the hot water heater was IN the shower!

On my first visit to Yangon (about 35 years ago), I stayed at the Strand Hotel. A few of electrical points worth noting -

1. The old fashioned candlestick, candle and box of matches on the bedside table paid tribute to the reliability of the electricity supply.

2. Anyone using the hand dryer in the Men's room dimmed the lights in the whole hotel.

3. I was fascinated by the street lighting in the road up the side of the hotel. This comprised a length of what looked like fencing wire strung across the road, to which was attached above the middle of the street about a metre of 4" x 1" timber, underneath which were screwed connectors for a 40W fluorescent tube, a ballast and a starter socket. No other housing whatever. Power was supplied by a length of thin figure eight taped to the supporting wire.

Minimum Standards - Wiring Rules
Read the next para, which came in, in July 2007.
Wiring systems shall (the word 'shall' means in the definitions clause 1.4.84A 'indicates a statement is mandatory), maintain a separation of not less than 25mm from any above ground gas and water piping.
Underground services are covered in clause 3.11.5
This includes around the outside, inside, roof space and within wall cavities.
I suggest the owner act quickly to point out to the builder and the Electrical Contractor.
If you don't get any action, call your Network Operator and advise of non compliant wiring.
The Contractor may then have in Electrical Inspectors order written on the build.

I bet it was working.

And those installation are around today.
Still compliant from the rules of the day.
But are they safe.
Cable do have a use by date.
Any installation with VIR cabling should be rewired.
