Your right Chris, It is 70 kph there, and I doubt I was speeding . I assumed I was doing a 100kph, it happen all too fast , my mate and I were quite shaken by what happened as I had the trailer do a bit of a dance at the back when I braked . I had my speed switched off on the camera so I have no evidence, it becomes 90 just after that intersection, then 100 later on.
I got pulled over by the Hastings police once for traveling too slow on that section whilst towing a heavy trailer so I am conscious of speed not to hold up traffic.

I know that this is in the wrong place but I thought it appropriate.

Two Italian families moved to Australia. The two husbands Alfio and Franco were work mates driving long haul semis in Europe.
So they go and try to get licenced so they can drive semis in Australia.
Alfio was being questioned first. He was asked what would he do if the situation arose where coming over the crest of a large hill, he saw the road blocked by a huge smash at the bottom. He said that he would start changing down to slow the semi. The question was asked what would he do next because the gearbox blew. He said he would immediately start braking.
OK the interviewer said, but now your brakes fail. Alfio said he would wake his partner Franco up. Why would you do that he was asked. Because Franco has never seen a good truck smash yet, he replied.

No video - I wish I had some of what happened today while assisting in the delivery of a genset by a large crane truck in a tight location.

Knowing where the truck had to get to - backing off a 4 lane major road in the burbs - I attended to give the customer a bit of a hand. The road where we were is only a 40KPH zone - right in the middle of a strip of local shops, so it should be easy right?

Anyway, 2 of us - the customer and I, with all our high vis, and paddles head out when the truck calls us from down the road. He pulls over safely and when a small break in the traffic presents itself, we head onto the road with 'STOP' signs in hand - one for each direction of oncoming traffic (we both have traffic controllers tickets before you ask).

Once the traffic is stopped, we call the truck to pull out which he does - right accross the road to square up to back down the laneway, when from the inside lane heading my way comes a new white Range Rover at a decent clip - he can clearly see me, and I move the bat to intercept him (I'm not getting in the way), but he blows past me and only brakes when he realises there's a truck he's about to smack into.

He then blows his horn and starts abusing the truck driver! WTF are some people on? As he's now broken the law (Running a STOP bat is the same as running a stop sign or red light) I politley tell him what he's done wrong and take his rego details which were handed to the Police shortly after. He says we were blocking the road and shouldn't have been there..

Said Police have since called the truck driver and the customer who witnessed this for a statement so I think someone is in trouble... :D

Not sure what the go is in Victoria but up here you would be in the wrong. Traffic controllers or not, a permit has to be issued before the road can be closed, even for two minutes.

A permit for traffic management is at the worksite for the duration of the job, valid from the 17th Jan 2017 until 30th August 2017. With this permit it's quite legal to use traffic management for temp road closures to get vehciles in and out of building sites like this. The stop bat in the hands of a a ticketed traffic controller with a valid permit is a legal stop sign. The local Police agreed.

The permit is granted after a traffic management plan is drafted by an approved person and approved by Council. The plan for this site was for 2 stop/slow bats to be used for all movements of large vehciles in and out of the site. JSEA was also done. ;)

Just had a look through a document from a job last year - we could use the stop/slow bats for temp road closures and traffic stoppage on an entire road network covered by the event at the time.

We always used someone on the road when unloading trucks there, and no individual permits were issued. We just did a new JSEA each time.

I won't profess to know all the laws here to be honest, but the guy I worked with today was one of their full time traffic controllers so I was taking his lead today, but I guarantee everything we did today was above board - the company involved doesn't take short cuts. You should have seen what went on with the paperwork to operate the crane truck on site and get the machine off. :D

Should've used a tip truck. ;)

It's hard enough maneuvering large trucks in confined spaces without some impatient oxygen bandit making it just that bit more difficult for the workers who just trying to do their job.

I used to organise parking permits for works in Melb CBD, I would apply for permits and pay a fee to Melbourne City council to have restricted parking for certain days, then when the contractors arrived they would find some oxygen bandit has ignored the no parking signs and stolen the parking. People just don't get it!
