New according to Bruce Davis, he imports them from LR in the UK and are a genuine LR Disco 1 prop shaft 8O it would be interesting to see one from the same model D1, which is i believe a 94 to 99.Quote:

So Baz,
I'm pressumming you got your maxi in the rear and that the axles are as strong as ever
And you went to a double uni rear propshaft, and took out what you thought was the weakest link the rubber donut 8O
Was it a new or second hand propshaft?
Still does make for a great story and photo  https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/ https://www.aulro.com/afvb/
It would be interesting also to see if anyone has left there Rotoflex coupling on and not had a failure because as yet not even a mark on the rotoflex from using it without the locker.
Baz.

There are quite a few people running ARB lockers and the Rotoflex without drama. What breaks them on the D2 is big shock loads. With the D2 suspension geometry, lift doesn't affect them like it does the other Landys.
BTW, I have a factory D1 uni-uni tailshaft here if you want to look at it. I can take some pics.

Mate that would be good thanks for that.
Have you researched a stronger shaft Simon and uni setup like the ones in the link on the previous page.
Looks pretty interesting the Double cardin rear shaft for big lifts.

I'm going to run mine with the rotoflex and carry a spare and see how long it will last 8O
The guys at MR reckon they have done a few maxi installs and retained the roto
They said something along the lines of it acting like a fuse in the drivetrain, and easier to change out when in the bush than a broken uni or shaft, axle etc 8O
Sounds good in theory anyway
I replaced my rubber donut after the last BBQ i ripped it to shreds with all that snatch strap work.
What are the details on fender, is it a 100in hybrid, it looks to long for a 90 and to short for a 110, and the back wheels are ver close to the rear? Matt
I don't think they work as a fuse... well I've never seen a Rotoflex snap as such anyway. What I think they do well though, is absorb a lot of the initial shock loading which makes life easier on the other axle components. But, if the jolt is big enough, it sacrifices the Rotoflex.Quote:

They are pretty easy to change though, and it can be done in the bush. If the Rotoflex does completely fail, the shaft wont fall out either, unlike with a uni. The uni ultimately is a lot stronger though.
Yep. It seems the big thing that makes it difficult to use a LC or Patrol shaft, is we are limited by the PCD of the flanges on the pinions and transfer case, which in turn limits the size of the unis, and then the shaft itself. It seems that the Landy unis are not to bad anyway, though the double cardins are undersized and break a fair bit, likewise the standard unis with high torque engines and big tyres.Quote:

At the moment Metropolitan Driveshafts are developing a larger Double cardin, made from Commodore unis, but that is still about 1 year away. Hardy-Spicer are about to release a Double cardin that is Landcruiser spec also, which is due for release in about mid Feb when they build up stock. My assumption is that if the DC's are available, then the uni flanges to suit the Rover PCD and larger uni joint will be available and so from there a larger uni and shaft can be built.
Then again, I suppose you could also machine up adaptors to fit a bigger shaft.
