I know quite a few 350's with a lot more than $8k spent on them
I meant 8k putting the 350 in, well that's how I understood it,
i spoke to the owner today, apparently bought from SA with the motor already in, not yet engineered, plus has had a full re trim inside at a cost of apparently 10k,
original paint, apart from some trim

Will the driveline survive?
Will the brakes be up to it ?
Manual box, I know nothing of the anchors
I read somewhere that the Rangie was made constant four wheel drive to spread the power, one diff wasn't strong enough and Rover couldn't afford to develop a bigger diff.
I'm more surprised these days that people use the 350 chev.... For an existing conversion yeah .... but to do a fresh one, why on earth wouldn't you use an aluminium LS series engine  detune the buggery out of it to protect the driveline if you must... but surely the conversion costs would be the same ? after all it's the engineering and compliance of getting the engine in there that would be your main cost.
