I'm not saying this is the case here, but in the past independent stations have made brews to water the fuel down. I think they use toluene in sydney up to 40-50%. Toluene can be a good thing, but not at that ratio![/quote]
Although it never made the papers, it turned out a few years ago that one of the majors (Mobil???) was responsible for the shipload of toluene.
Federal Government then put duty on as the majors were substituting duty free paint thinners for dutiable fuel.
It was not the independents at all.
Also there was a kerfuffle about someone saying their engine was damaged by 20% ethanol from an independent which was taken up by ACA. Turned out to be BS and no mechanic ever said it. It was just the owner trying to get someone (anyone??) to pay for their stuffed engine.
Now Shell has Optimax 100 with 10% ethanol after Fed arm twisting.
The independents buy either from Singapore or the majors. AFAIK, there is still no standard in OZ for unleaded so you can still get crap.
