    moving landy from sth coast to sydney

    Hi all,

    Am in a bit of a quandry.

    I need to move an unreg disco from down the south coast up to Sydney so we can get it fixed and then regoe'd.

    Have been looking at car trailers but the max weight is 1300 - 1500 kgs.

    Anyone know of where to rent a trailer so I can move the beast up to Sydney greatly appreciated.

    cheers

    Is it roadworthy enough to drive it to Sydney?
    If so you can purchase an unregistered vehicle permit from RMS to drive it to Sydney.
    Other than that a tilt tray is the best option but they are expensive.
    The problem with the trailer option is the towing capacity of the tow vehicle.
    LR = +-2500kg + trailer= +-1200kg total= 3700kg which exceeds the towing capacity of most utes etc
    I have towed a Perentie on a car trailer for a short distance with a Hilux ute and it was not fun.

    The trailer will normally be able to physically carry more but because trailers over 2t all up have to have electric brakes, breakaway system and of course the tow vehicle must have electric brake controllers etc the rental people downgrade the capacity of their trailers to 2t all up (so your 1300-1500kg load). Many only have override brakes and no breakaway system. They do this because they cannot guarantee the tow vehicle will always be legal and it is a cheaper trailer to rent out.

    I cannot help directly but I do know that there are some specialist trailer rental companies that will rent trailers with electric brakes and breakaway system with verification of an appropriate tow vehicle with tow capacity, and brake controller - the renter will normally provide the breakaway battery monitor as required in NSW. Is you vehicle fitted with a brake controller? If not, you will need to look at alternatives.

    These companies are light on the ground but do exist - all I can suggest is that you let your fingers do the walking via you phone.

    Good luck
