Will has managed to get the Beaurepairs mob to open and provide a cheap 2nd hand replacement.

2 New coopers de-treaded themselves both in a ridiculous space of time.

The rear quarter is damaged, the fuel filler too but he's mobile.

I'm sure Will shall post regarding this upon his return to Melbourne

    Thanks guys

    Cheers
    Mike

Hi All. First post here for a very long time.

We had a really scary experience yesterday whilst coming home from Adelaide to Melbourne. The right rear Cooper ST basically peeled apart.

Had probably 200kgs of luggage, but had removed the large rear seat, so probably 180kgs more than empty. 38psi. Speed 110k/h. Main tyre, Cooper ST, had done about 35000 kms. Spare Cooper ST had done about 60000kms. 46deg C ambient temperature.

Fitted the spare, after fishtailing to a barely controlled stop. Got about 200 kms further, and then the spare peeled apart too!

Tread separated from EXACTLY the same place on both tyres.

It goes without saying that I'll be talking to the local Cooper dealer on Tuesday, when he opens.

I should also note that I have got significant panel damage from the treads thrashing around until I could stop...!

Got home safely thanks to the Horsham Beaurepaires guy.

Has anyone else had this kind of thing happen to them? If so, please contact me:

    d2 AT d2au.com

Thanks to Mike Hayes for his assistance.

Have a look at http://www.d2au.com/modules.php?name=Forum...pic&p=1818#1818 to see the damage etc.

    Here's one pic.

I hope it was not the Coopers as I have a set of STT's on mine and would not want this happening.

For Will I hope it was the tyres as he may have some sort of claim.

I know a few years ago the Cooper AT tyres were having problems delaminating for no reason and is why my local dealer would not sell me a set until they had rectified the problem. Did not end up buying Coopers but BFG's. This time have bought STT's anyway.
If it is an older set of AT type tyres a bit of research into the problems Cooper had with delaminating might be warranted.
Brings back memories of the Firestone tyre drama's a few years ago.

Its a pity I didn't log in sooner. I am in Rainbow at the moment, about an hour away from Horsham. If he is completely rooted and still needs a hand we can be reached on 03 5395 1119 until Tuesday.
