Exactly DiscoMick! Most of us on here would have no ulterior motive in carrying such items...and I would rather have my 'rights' curtailed, than let some scumbag have carte-blanche to carry weapons. Usually the people who scream for 'civil liberties' are the ones who are first to screech "why didn't the police stop that criminal". We can't have it both ways.
The law is most definitely an ass. However, we now need a definition of "lawful reason". I carry, on a regular basis, about 100 things that would easily kill someone if I put my mind to it. My toolbox is full of them. Every screwdriver I own, even the little ones I use on electronic gear, could kill you. I could burn you to death with my gas torch, or blow you up with it's cylinder.. I have around a dozen hammers of various types, all of which are the proverbial 'blunt instrument'. Same thing with spanners, pipe wrenches, pry bars, etc. etc. I could electrocute you with my welders ( pity I can't use them to weld ), I could garrotte you with the cord, rope or fishing line I carry. I could suffocate you with the fire extinguisher. A year ago I could have wiped out hundreds with the 26 metre B Double I drove. I reckon my disco could do a better job than that nutter did on Bourke Street. I could make a bolt gun out of compressed air, like they use on horses, and that maniac in 'No Country For Old Men'. My nephew was trained by the Military to kill people with his bare hands. Quickly, and silently.Quote:

If you have the connections you say, and I stress I have no reason to doubt you, then you would know that around 98% of police involvement in almost any situation winds up with no charges. Police are well trained to assess situations, and generally the training comes through.Quote:

Screwdrivers, hammers and similar tools have innocent uses, but machetes exist simply for chopping stuff, including flesh. They are designed to be weapons.
This is a silly thread, and has degenerated into a ridiculous rant on freedoms.
We already have far too many controls on our lives. We need more freedom, not less ( A Bill of Rights will give us less ). Most of the population are reasonable people, and should be treated as such. I doubt I've ever seen so many frightened responses to a thread on this forum than this one. If you want to give in to the threat of terrorism, that's your choice, but to deny some grey nomad the opportunity to slice his onions seems a little extreme. My favourite kitchen knife is more than twelve inches long...Be afraid..... I await the knock on my door.....

Oh, Please. A machete was designed to cut through bush. Nothing more, nothing less. My hammers were designed to hit objects quite hard. Would you care to take a bet as to which one, out of a machete and a hammer, is the most prolific murder weapon?? Bet you lose.Quote:
