Legal reason? Legal reason to carry, well, what, exactly? Do I need a reason to carry a two foot long pry bar? Kill you in a heartbeat with that. Your premise is ridiculous and your (lack of) argument absurd. Trying to paint me as the one who has lost the subject is nothing more than deflection. Try arguing the topic, not your particular place in it.

My daughter has spent some time in East Timor. At the end of her stay some locals gave her a couple of home made machetes - lots of character, if you know what I mean. She chucked them in her bags (checked), flew back to Oz and declared them at customs. The customs officers pulled them out, looked at them and said wow who'd you get these from. Daughter says can I keep them. Of course says the customs officials, - they are not prohibited.

It's not my premise mate, I have dealt in facts..... it's the law here in SA. Make of it what you will.

You have called into question the State I live in, and you have made insinuations about my loyalties on Anzac day.

We are now going around in circles. Having stated the facts and pointing out the law (in this state) to the OP....I withdraw from this thread...as I have no interest in getting into personal slanging matches.

Cheers and keep smiling, we live in wonderful free country!

Given that a few years ago I witnessed a road rage attack where one guy got out of his car with an axe and started threatening the other driver with it and when I called triple 0 was told it wasn't an emergency as by the time I spoke to someone both cars had taken off with the axe wielder chasing the other guy. I reckon here in WA you'd be pretty right to carry whatever you want.

In fact you have no doubt unwittingly demonstrated my point. We all have opinions, and bless us for that, but the OP
asked for a legal response, which I doubt most of us would be qualified to give. My point about the degeneration of this thread applied equally to me as to you. I was merely trying to draw attention to that. We disagree on the fundamentals. Good. I hate sheep masquerading as people. Opinion should matter, even if it challenges. It's the only way to learn.
I'll buy you a beer if we ever meet on a track. Maybe you'll do the same? That's what we're here for, isn't it?

Sorry, the State you live in is also the State that eight of my family also live in. My aspersions are to the stupid Govt you have, or do you like blackouts? The ANZAC thing was a question of your loyalties. It seemed to me that you were happy to let some stupid person on ice control your life. I have the opposite opinion. Perhaps I misread you, or perhaps you didn't explain yourself well. I will tell you that it gets up my nose when people lie down to terrorism, when we have fought so hard against that. Your comments re "I'm happy" rang that bell for me. If I got you wrong then I am very happy to apologise. We're a broad church here. As I have said elsewhere, I'll shout you a beer, or beverage of your choice, if ever we meet on a track. Maybe I can tell you my ANZAC stories, and maybe you'll understand. We can only try.

Cool. Happy with Coopers? I'm not a fan of social media sponsored nonsense. And Sparkling Ale is my second fave.

I still don't see the problem in being able to carry something that was sold legally and bought legally in this country...

Nor do I. As I said to the aforementioned Highway Patrol officer, sure, I'll carry it in the toolbox, rather than the door pocket, but I'll still carry it. His response? Fine.
