For example in England and here in Oz as well to a lesser extend the farming secto does have cache amongst the Yuppy set. Wellington boots, Barber anoraks, do not say "Pesant" they say the opposite. The Defender is very country homes, AGAs, hounds and brisk walks through the drizzle after lunch with Princess Anne.

    --snip--

If anything in England Defenders are MORE snooty than Range Rovers.
Exactly. Didn't even Top Gear say the Landrover is classless? You could either own the land, or work the land.

However, the Defender as-is doesn't fit with LR's image completley, because it's not very modern or electronic, and anyway has a limited life left before it's regulated out of existence. So it will be replaced, but shouldn't been seen as a low-end D3 any more than the current Defender was seen as a low-end Discovery 2.

"brisk walks through the drizzle after lunch with Princess Anne."

now there's novel way to describe the Landrover brand, and an accurate one at that!

The topic was the D3 is great but have sales been disappointing.

The D3 is great, in fact it's better than great.

As to sale, they weren't disappointing as far as I'm concerned because one was to me!

Volume wise it doesn't matter. Ford isn't going to drop LR yet, especially not as they're tooling up a new factory in China. And we don't really want everyone driving a landy. That would make them, why.......common!!

And count me in for the South West trip.

But not in March. I'll be sipping Pina Coladas on the Pacific Sun.

And that is the rationale behind a preimum brand, not everyone can afford it. It's different, exclusive.

Full colour on the wireless, that is impressive!

Clearly Frenchie needs to autograph something for his fanclub, perhaps a signature on a quarter panel in texter :-)

Celebrity is a cut throat business. Just this morning I was listening in to the news to get Frenchie's take on the aftermath of cyclone Claire and all the flooding etc and who did I hear. Some clown named "Greg"(?) I dunno who Greg is but I'm warning you Frenchie, nip him in the bud. It was your cyclone and you were the one who built the publics trust. We need YOUR views on the flooding.

I can see how it panned out "No worries Greg, you do the report and I'll just shift these bits of paper around here, we can share the limelight"

That is a sign of weakness.

I recommend locking yourself in your dressing room and refusing to come out until this "Greg" is out of the building and spruiking bargain shoes through a PA in Hay Street MAll.

    It's you or him, dude.

Frenchie, I think you need to remember the meaning of life according to Conan the Barbarian:

"You must crush your enemies, drive them before you and enjoy the lamentation of their women!"
