I prefer to talk to the panel trade when it comes to rust. I'm just not hearing it. Ford have built well over 100,000 of the things, not including Territory, and yet a simple Google of "BA Falcon rust" turns up very few hits, top of the list being a forum thread based in 2005/6.

I see "plenty of talk" about the unreliability of Land Rovers on the forums I frequent. So what? As I said, I'm not interested in hearsay. Documented evidence is needed. If the BA was as bad as this thread suggests, Ford would have issued a recall. Any occurrence of structural rust in the first seven years since production would have assured it, as the Govt. demands it.

I repeat my opinion. The most likely cause of rust in any car built since the mid 90s is poor accident damage repair. Even in Alfa Romeos. If there is any evidence around that undamaged Fords are rusting, present it to Ford. I'll bet you get an answer.
I am not "calling myself a mechanic". I AM a mechanic, self employed. I see these vehicles day in, day out. I see the rust under the bonnet, around the boot opening, etc. You are entitled to an opinion, but having an opinion doesn't mean you are correct., but mine is backed up with first hand experience. Not hearsay.
The panel trade may well not see much Falcon / Territory rust because most panel beaters don't do much in the way of rust repairs these days. And quite possibly the owners of these less than prestige vehicles know that fixing the rust would be a waste of time and money.

I agree that for the majority of vehicle built since the 90s rust is not an issue. Unfortunately the Aussie built Ford products don't fall into that category.

Nope. Had the same failure as mine did. JC and Paul have replaced the bottom end, and cleaned the top end up. It's got an HD flex plate, new turbo and fuel reg, near new fuel pump, mapped ecu, and apparently it doesn't leak!
So it will take over main duties. The blue one will probably have a couple of things removed and then fixed up and possibly go to dad. Or I'll do something really silly with it Who's owned an XR6?Who's owned an XR6?

I saw a V8 Cat shoehorned into an F250 once. All the ducting was made of stretched and welded aluminium to fit the available remaining space. Under the bonnet looked like a second bonnet with lines all over it. Outside the truck looked standard apart from the huge exhausts. Could be a bit surprising at the lights.
    Cheers, Billy.
