Chop's advice was excellent.
We painted the inside of our Maleny house last year - it was a bugger of a job, but the results are good.
Pick the room you care least about, such as the toilet, and experiment with it.
Be fussy about sanding, filling and more sanding, until you have got it right. Then the painting is much easier.
Only thing I'd add is to put a white undercoat over everything, literally everything. Just swamp everything in it.
Then you start adding colours. That way, even if you stuff it up, there is still a white undercoat underneath.
For example, if everything is white, then its easy to just roll a contrasting colour around the faces of door trims etc, leaving the sides white.
Don't try to get too fancy with using varying shades of the same colour in the same room either. Keep it simple.
Personally, I'd just paint my entire house white (saying I live in The White House has a certain ring to it) and be happy, but others in my orbit have fancier ideas.
Remember, every dollar you save by doing it yourself is a dollar you have to do other things with, such as buying toys.
Painting your house is a rite-of-passage thingy. You need to do it at least once in your life so you can proclaim to be an expert to all the following generations... :wheelchair:
Also think of it as a fully legal tax minimisation scheme. Every dollar you pay to a professional painter earns the tax office two lots of income tax. DIY attracts zero tax. [smilebigeye]
