At least she's having a go, none of us were born with knowledge.

I agree with what you say Ian , but its her attitude some times that gets me and I do give 10/10 for trying and there is the funny side plus as I said before its me that 9 time out of 10 has to pick up the mess and cost.

Ah yes, the impetuous of youth. We've all been through that stage.

One of my daughters decided that she wanted to be able to fix up her own car as she had just bought a twin cab Hilux 4x4.
I bought her on of those tool sets from 4wd supercheap and thought that was the end of my involvement.
I find it takes much more effort and patience to teach someone how to do a repair job instead of just doing it yourself and my first reaction when the flange gasket on her truck needed replacing was to do it myself, I resisted this and instead of the job taking half an hour it took most of the morning to get done.
I am so glad I took the extra time and effort as the look on her face when she fired up the truck with the now quiet exhaust was priceless.

Not long ago while washing my car, the young lass next door decided to top up the oil in her new (to her) Honda. She came over to ask for a rag as she had spilled some oil. First car she has ever owned so she wanted to look after it.

I quietly took the keys off her and said to sit down while I cleaned up......the oil overflowing out from the top of the engine. Poor thing had never heard of checking the oil with a dipstick. She just filled it to the top like you would any other container. Hey, well at least she tried!

It took a while to put things to rights, but no harm done. After a cup of tea she was shown how to do some simple checks on her car. I also showed her how to change a tyre and then made her do it without any help. She is now a very happy camper - and I got some really nice wine as a thankyou out of it too!
