    Tragic crash, three dead.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The Newell is a major transport link from north to south in this day and age we still have Highways where 2 vehicles travleing at 100jkph approach one another and pass with only meter and a bit of so between them as they pass each other, add trucks into the equation and tired truck drivers on tight schedules into the equasion, or tired motorists driving during sleeping times ,e ents like this do happen. I hate the Newell.

Disagree. In modern times, the Newell is a disgrace. But I'll tell you, I'd much rather the Newell than the Pacific, as it is now. The Newell keeps you awake. Especially between Narribri and Coonabarabran. In fact, the Newell was my preferred route. I often had to head down from Brisvegas to Sydney. That was the worst, unless I could wrangle it and use the New England.

However, that particular stretch, in this awful post, is one of the worst stretches of the Newell. Moree to Goondiwindi seems to tax everyone. I wish I knew why.

I can't see the Disco, but I echo the hope that the people are nobody we know. They are most certainly someone that someone knows, and their lives will not be the same.

Not quite accurate - much of the Newell has a 110 speed limit!

What makes this accident worse is that all three dead were teenage siblings from a show family travelling north from the Dubbo Show that finished at the weekend.

This is the second fatal headon involving a car and a truck in the early morning on the Newell this month - the last one was just out of Dubbo.

I guess in both cases, the question is - which one was on the wrong side of the road? (Could be both driving down the centreline!)

Actually, that section of the Newell is in pretty good shape. Lots of road works still being carried out. I was over it last weekend ( for the first time in about 5 years ) and they have improved it quite a bit since I last travelled over it.

The problem there is not to much the condition of the road, it is that it is one of a number of long BORING sections of roads in the area.

My guess is that one of the drivers nodded off because of the boredom of driving that section.

I think you are probably right. It happened at about 0600, meaning that they had all probably been driving through the wee hours.

A reason offered for the accidents on the stretch just north of Dubbo is that people have a big feed at Dubbo then become drowsy within a short time - "food coma".
