    I remember watching a few long youtube videos of these things in operation a year or two ago, was quite impressive. I'll try to find something in the morning.

    O ring seals on the space shuttle?
    They do not seal in fuel at low temperatures very well ?

    They were on the main liquid tank I think not the shuttle itself.

    Yep they were O rings in the solid rocket boosters.

    AFAIR the tempetatures were so low the rubber became brittle and didn't seal properly, letting the high temperature and pressure gases out. Crazy how such a seemingly minor item can have such a catastrophic impact.
