Thread: Disco owners don't wave

Firstly, if that is how Sydney has got, phew thank goodness for moving to Brisbane many many years ago. Having said that, whilst we don't have to resort to carrying firearms, a sling shot would go along way to knock the shell off some of the peanuts up here . I must admit recently I was guilty of jamming the hammers on the M1 with some tool in a buzz box trying to tail me. All that got me was a " what the hell are you doing" from the little lady, spluttering I tried to explain to no avail. What Drivesafe wrote I hadnt even thought of, so good point. Anyway looked out for LR drivers on the way home yesterday and saw none at all, normally I see quite a few, and Anthony if I see ya in the red rangie will go all out with waves, lights a flashing and throw in some horn tootin for good measure. Have to drive up to Brissie this arvo to pick up my 2 wascles (yep typical statistic) from their mothers, so will be ample opportunity to test out the LR wave. So if ya see me coming expect a wave,

Mate I wave - but I surpose i'm a little different to most P38 drivers cos mine actually goes off road

Im a p38 driver and I wave... the only ones that seem to wave back are defender driver.... not had one disco yet.

The local insurer has on different occasions raised the problem in their rag and their figures show that of all the different types of accidents that result in a bingle, tailgating amounts to 40% of all claims which shows it’s an absolute epidemic.

Don’t hit your brakes, because if the no-brainer hits you, your at fault.

If you want to pi## someone off who is tailgating you, either slowly decrease your speed by about 10 kph, then slowly increase your speed and keep cycling your speed continually and if they are really close just slowly reduce your speed to about 20 kms below the speed limit. Even if they don’t get the message, at least you will reduce the amount of damage they will cause if you have to hit the anchors.

It’s an offence to brake unnecessarily but it is not an offence to drive at any speed you want below the marked speed limit. if they are trying to force to go faster, go slower.

I wave and don't care if they wave back or not personally I think it's a state of mind thing either you get it or you don't.

Bloody tailgaters a couple of days ago I had one so close I couldn't see his lights, I touched the brake pedal to show the brake lights so the idiot hit me with high beam spot lights the lot. Did the slow down gig so they would pass - Oh no just keep the spot lights on so I crack it slammed on the brakes pulled over - they passed window down big mouth full of abuse and the bird, Hmm me thinks some Chev Suburbans drivers are not nice people.

I hope I see him bogged one day

When I was a new Disco owner I waved my arm off to any Disco I saw, but most of the time I was rewarded with a curious look if I was still in town. Now if I’m in a well populated area I reciprocate if I get a wave, which is pretty rare. In town I think people just have too many other things on their mind.
I find it’s a different story out in the country. I generally give a wave to any other 4by be they LR, Jap or whatever, if they look like they are traveling. In my experience it is rare not to receive acknowledgment – even from other Disco drivers. Out of town people just seem more friendly.
Get further out in isolated areas, everyone seems to wave no matter what vehicle they drive. I love getting away from town areas.
Thinking about what I just said, I don’t think I have ever waved to a clean Merc or BMW 4x4. They only have space-saver spares anyway and taking a Mercedes off the road voids the warranty so I was told by a Merc service manager.

I only wave at Series or Defenders (110's included). Generally get a wave back.

No point waving at a Disco or Rangie (unless it's obvious the owner is an enthusiast) they just don't know what's going on!

No offence intended to any of you unfortunate disco/rangie owners.
