Members of the public are being warned of a scam currently circulating known as the ‘death threat scam’.
Fraudsters are approaching victims via email, text message or telephone calls and pretending to be a hired hit man with a contract on the victim’s life.
The fraudster states this contract can only be removed if payment by the victim is made. They can then demand payment via bitcoin, bank transfer/financial institute remittance or through iTunes gift card.
Anyone who has received emails or text messages of this nature should ignore them- don't respond and don't send any money to the scammers.
