Smile A bit smoky cough cough

About a month ago my immediate boss pointed out a shed heater sitting in a junk pile. Junk pile was is the next door factory car park. People in that factory had moved on and it was vacant. So we half inched it and put it in the disco. Got it home and it had the name The Hot Tank on the front of it. So it could be a factory made or some one who really really liked there work. Today I finally got around to fitting the flue. Need not have bothered. Lets just say there is a bit of smoke floating around in the shed. Not sure of the makers intentions, but inside the tank there is a square bit of some thing blocking the flue. May have been part of the tank when it was a gas cylinder ? There is only a half inch hole through it. I discovered this about two minutes after getting a fire going. So there is going to be some macro surgery done. It does have a flue dampener so this item can be removed.

Half a lifetime ago someone gave me an old kero heater. I took it to work and spray painted it, (it came up real flash) one of the blokes from work gave me a spare wick that he had laying about. Now I have an almost new looking heater that's cost me not a razoo. In keeping with the theme, I acquired a couple of litres of kero. It was about this time I discovered kero ain't kero Sol. My new pride and joy was belching out copious amounts of thick, acrid, black smoke, enough to block the view of the telly and necessitate the evacuation of the lounge.
The new wick and a couple of tanks of the correct (purchased) fuel, had it serving us faithfully for many years.

Now that does bring back memories. At home we had a kero heater. Another one that was interesting to light was the oil heater. Open the door, light paper, ignite oil heater, usually with a woomp sound as you took too long between turning the heater on and lighting it. That could also give the lounge a aroma of a oil refinery. As for my new shed heater it has sorted it self out and is working well now. Might try a little less wood next time I fire it up.
