I shouldn't have washed my car today

Today, I finally got around to washing my car for the first time in months - then off to work I went.

At 1641, there was a lovely lightning strike which took out my panel at Springwood.

Everything looked normal on the track indicator diagram but I was soon convinced that not all was as it seemed. W582 and W555 called to say that the signals had gone back to stop in front of them and they were still red. My diagram showed all was green.

A quick check showed I had a panel mux failure and I had absolutely no control over signals or points. I couldn't cancel the routes and reset them, I couldn't move points, I couldn't clear signals. Everything was red.

Oh well, I didn't want dinner tonight, my wife has put me on a diet.

The rain was horrendous, the Gt Western Hwy near the station was flooded. The Valley Heights NOS and the Springwood DM were soaked after coming back from clipping points. The DM came back and his waterproof jacket pockets were 1/4 full of water. The station mobile was submerged in his pocket! To top it off, we lost the phones for outside calls - we couldn't make or receive any - and some of the Metronet train radio and some of the signal phones weren't working so I couldn't talk to trains

Lots of blockworking after getting a number of points clipped. The phones and the Metronet just never stopped ringing, trains tripping out at every controlled signal from Warrimoo to Bullaburra.

5 hours later, the system was finally back to normal operation.

So for those of you on the Blue Mountains line, it was all my fault. I will not wash my car again before going to work.

This may make sense only to Drivesafe.

Come live here for a bit, when it rains you soap up the car and let the rain rinse it off.

The rain keep the dust away long enough for it to look clean.

Oh and the train drivers here had fun when Cyclone Clare just went through as well.

I may have seen this on the way home, the rain was heavy, I don't envy you but... Thanks for fixing it!

I feel sorry for the commuters. Many were stuck on a train between platforms for up to an hour 'cos it was peak hour(s) and the guards were unable to tell them when they might get moving.

The highway at Springwood was flooded quite deeply, I am told.

    The downpour was extreme.

have you ever been in town when they accidently send a steamer through the tunnel system...?

do you know how funny it looks to see all the commuters running from their platforms
coughing and spluttering as they emerge from all the soot and smoke....
