    New Defender, When?

Does anyone know when LR are releasing the new defender? I hear you will be able to get an auoto on a TDV6 donk! Australian defence vehicle tender closes in a few months so I expect the Army wont be using LR any more. Any details on the defender would be great.

There is talk that the new Defender is undergoing testing in the UK and will be available in the US in late 2007 as a 2008 model. This from landroverchronicles.com:

Land Rover released a new photo of Gerry McGovern, Land Rovers advanced design director, who is a very talented designer we must say! But obviously if you look in the background you will see what appears to be an all-new Defender! Could this be the next Defender?

If you look closely at this concept you will see a few new details such as a standard 2nd row seat configuration rather than fold down rear side seats. The roof looks as though it might be all glass, similar to Land Rovers new Disco3/LR3. Approach and departure angles are phenomenal! Unfortunately this photo doesn't reveal where the spare tire will sit, but overall we think this Defender concept looks fantastic!

It looks a beauty! You are right about the departure angles, looks like it could climb walls! If it is delivered anything like what I expect then out with my 03 HSE and I'll take one of these!

Not with them wheels and tyres though, will be a real worry if they go to something like 18" rims, as I don't think there's too many off road tyres around.

Damn right, I am going through that pain as we speak. The new disco has 255/60/18 which is better than the previous 255/55/18 which I have but not by much. All these are road biased also which gets up my nose as I just sliced the wall open on a $400 tire last weekend. Perhaps the tyre companies will come up with somethng out of left field.....
I dont suppose you know of any 18" tyres with even just a slightly agressive tread pattern? The Pirelli Scorpion Zero may be OK with a 60 profile otherwise I am looking at 55's in a Cooper I expect but again it is a road biased tyre.........

hot tip - the contract for the new vehical for the defence force will be ADI (Australian Defence Industries) purpose built like the bush master, i would think it would be at least 5 years before the defence force receives them

The sooner they release a new Defender, the sooner they will depreciate to a level where I might be able to afford one so... bring it on.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

No doubt Landrover will overprice them on release then drop the price by $10k soon after release.

According to roverparts.com these are the latest concept drawings for the 2008 Defender that will be released in the US in 2007.

Excellent, there'll be a rush on new Defenders and the arse will drop out of the secondhand TD5 market just about the time when I'll be ready for a change.
