Evidence shows dogs in Bali are being brutally killed and the meat sold to unsuspecting tourists - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)
I know what I'd like to do ,but its probably not the answer, be warned if you love dogs ( like me) this is very upsetting.
every time that country ****s up (live export trade & treatment of cattle, firing squads, corrupt govt/police, west Papua, ethanol in the spirits and now this ) , we quickly forget and go there in droves to drink cheap booze and behave like *****.
About 7 years ago, my then employer was planning a sales conference and Bali was thrown up as an option. My reply to my sales manager and the regional director was straight up, "if Bali happens, You have my resignation". They didn't go to Bali but I quit a few weeks later. Organisation was full of "Bali bucks/boys trip" types rolling around in X5s.
For a starter the animal rights groups are supplying the information... Thats a bit like the drunk whinging the beer is flat when he has run out of money..
As for dog meat, we ate it for centuries, especially when food was scarce... I've tried dog, tastes ok, not as good as goanna, snake or even cat...
Jumping up and down about places like Bali isn't going to make much difference, but the Balinese people will cop the loss's from this..
Back to the claims, these groups want humans gone from this planet so the vege munchers can have it all to themselves.. They want the cat and fox protected in Australia, but they claim these vermin are not cruel and that videos showing a cat killing for fun are fake...
I think people need to scrutinize these reports a lot more, the people behind these reports want reactions from people to make them feel good... Be very careful, I have had family abused by these types and then they disappear when they are caught out with there lies... We even had RSPCA get involved, then they had to sack a couple of employees over the issue...
If vegetarians don't want animal cruelty, why are they eating their food!
In all seriousness though, I have worked with a few Social Justice Warrior types, and their downfall is facts. Throw some verifiable facts at them, or try and get them to back up their claims, and they soon go scurrying back into the shadows. There were two in particular that I used to bait all the time. Lets just say that logic was not their strong point.....
I have a lot of relatives who live in Bali. The dog meat problem is a genuine one.
Speak to any expat living over there and they will tell you how many dogs go missing from compounds. have a look on street posts in expat areas and you'll see all the missing dog posters.
the issue is not so much about eating dog per se - so long as you know what youre eating - the bigger issue is about the theft of dogs, the cruelty of how they are dispatched, the hygene issues and of course the fact that people don't know they are eating it.
As for stopping it - it will stop when bali runs out of dogs....unfortunately.
My advice - if you go to bali - stick to the fish.
Some facts about dog eating in Asia. It tastes better than cat, BTW.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
When you have cultures that will kill a tiger for it's penis, a rhinoceros for it's horn, or an elephant for it's teeth, it's a little hard to get worked up over a culture that has eaten dogs for centuries. To these people a dog is just another animal. Horse is on the menu in France, amongst other places. Dolphin in Japan. Pretty much anything and everything in China.
Anyone with any sensibility that has worked in an abattoir here in Oz will know that pretty much all bulk animal slaughter is cruel.
As for a boycott, this is Indonesia we're talking about, so good luck. I will never voluntarily set foot in any part of Indonesia.
Bali was a beautiful place, 50 years ago, but as The Eagles sang, "You call some place Paradise, kiss it goodbye".
