At risk of going around in circles, I would ask: What good do traffic cameras do in these circumstances? I recall travelling on the Westgate freeway, outbound, one morning. Half of it was closed, due to an accident in which FIVE young people lost their lives. The investigators were all still there. The skid marks had to be seen to be believed. Estimates put the Commodore at well over 200 Km/h prior to the driver losing control. 100 cameras could do nothing to prevent this awful event. All they could do would be generate 100 bills for the poor parents to deal with. One MARKED police car could have stopped this before it started.
These kids are idiots, sure. I wonder if we would be as quick to criticise, though, if one of the dead was one of our own. I simply can't imagine anything worse.
