    Hello Jerry,

Thanks for the reply. As it happened you also confirmed something I was researching - the use of Waterpiks. Apparently it is a good aid; although not to be considered a replacement for brushing.

Using the wire picks on a still sensitive gum is not much fun - at all. The waterpik seems to be a much more attractive option

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

I have had 2 failed root canals - for two different reasons - and now have a gap on both sides.
Or you could do what one of my work mate's wife did and had a dental implant done in South Korea - for about the 1/4 of the price of having it done in Australia.

On that note, I know of someone who was facing an expensive dental procedure. His dentist told him that he went back to the Phillipines every so often to practice there, and he could have the procedure there, by his same dentist. He could have a holiday in the Phillipines and the procedure for less than just the procedure would cos here.

I had extensive implant work done by the Dental University Of Qld, not by choice but because of hereditary bone disease. My treatment took nearly two years from start to finish and in that time there was quite a queue of people waiting to get their cheap implants fixed.

Depends on 'where' your "cheap implant" was done, and by whom...

A particular hospital in Bali does lots of dental and cosmetic work for Foreigners, and a well-heeled friend of mine recently had dental work done in Thailand for around 1/2 the cost of Oz. Quality better than here.

I dealt with the gaps for years, (two on each side). Then the need for crowns on the teeth each end of the two on the right side,(one up one down) meant bridges on both.
Now I have one side that's great for chewing and one side that passes well enough.
Bridges are good once you become accustomed to the foreign bodies in your mouth but food gets stuck under them and you have to get it out.
Gaps left for long enough will see the teeth either end migrate slowly into the space. This causes other problems with the gaps increasing between the migrating teeth and the next in line. I had one tooth broken this way.

Incidentally: I have a theory that food,(especially sea food) left for too long in the gaps in your teeth will rot, causing food poisoning.
What do you all think of that?
    Cheers, Billy.

I'll be seeing the lady who treated me in the next few days, I'll pass on the website details to her and ask for her opinion. I cannot see how an implant can be done for $250 when one tiny screw to hold in the porcelain tooth costs $175 !!

Like I said in my previous post, the queue of people waiting to have cheap implants fixed was quite long.

The tiny screw only costs $1
Knowing how to put it in costs $174

I guess the dentist could expect his patient to come and complain at his Mt Waverley surgery if something went wrong. Wouldn't think it would be in his interest to skimp.

I have always been concerned re the overseas option if something went wrong what do you do about it - go all the way back there or go expensive and go local. Is the service / quality as ggod abroad as it is here?
    cheers,
