We encounter sea lice some times when fishing, a bait in the water is stripped to the bone in minutes, we have brought up baits after a few minutes and they are falling off the baits in clumps, the sea bed must be crawling with them, but where do these critters all go, they are not always there attacking baits?
We used to pull fish out of nets which they had gotten at...would be just skin with a skeleton inside, everything else gone...but as you also noticed...they weren't always there, seem to be seasonal.
They go to the Amazon to become piranhas
I do a fair bit of fishing for gummy sharks at night but only a few days either side of the full moon. No sea lice (well not as many)when there is a moon.
I don't ever bother fishing at night otherwise because the baits just get stripped by the lice.
